We were a little too wiped from the day’s travels, took a long late nap. Now I’m up at 10pm ready to play on the laptop.

Marginally interesting to note: if one clicks on mastodon.social etc links on New & Busted Twitter, you get a warning about unsafe links.

More interesting: it seems to be a narrow string match, with links to at least one other server clicking straight through.

I like to grumble about dot social as much as the next Fediverse resident, thanks to its huge population and strong evidence that moderation at scale is impossible.

But it’s our privilege to judge them, not Twitter’s.

Doing a pretty good job of enforcing my vacation by having 2FA split between two devices and leaving the one hooked up to job hunting services at home.

Sometimes the ADHD oversight works so seamlessly that it looks like I did a very smart thing on purpose.

If #RakuLang sigils and twigils confuse you, but you’re on this side of the “omg wtf linenoise lol” reaction to punctuation in code – more disquisitive than derogatory – this Advent of Code post by Nigel Hamilton might help.

@mjgardner Extremely useful! If you can keep the map in your head, which has been a challenge for me in Raku when going past the direct Perl counterparts.

@mjgardner Working through that post helped clarify the core options for me, and the .^attributes etc are just very cool for examining objects.

@baroquebobcat Everybody loves ASMR, the Abominable Snow Man Reboot!

@yenzie Depends on the review.

hackers.town: 2022-12-16 Fri 11:47

@yenzie did you open with “sorry?” That’s how I usually open my performance reviews.

@jacobydave might be more challenging with the heavy cultural emphasis on consensual interaction. Tried similar, but only counting my reactions to public posts from mutuals. Gave me too small a pool to work with at that time.

@jacobydave Oh and related: get the likely suspects on a Misskey-related or Akkoma instance you’ll get all the GIF madness and then some.

hackers.town: 2022-12-16 Fri 14:15

@jacobydave @gizmomathboy @Perigrin @WuMargaret (trying to find the project that specifically supports GIFs, but I mentioned those two because of Misskey-flavored Markdown which has text with animation)

@jacobydave @gizmomathboy @Perigrin @WuMargaret organic artisanal monsters are the best monsters

Was gonna do my ActivityPub thing on Render but never got the confirmation email. So I’m gonna do my ActivityPub thing on Digital Ocean.

Tonight, after we finish the day’s vacation activities.

@perigrin I’ll be as vanilla as I can get it. Ubuntu with Nginx in the front, hosting a static placeholder / blog, and forwarding a subdomain to Akkoma in the back.

Ok maybe a French vanilla.
