@mjgardner @IamMrsGeek I mean sure but also there’s the wide world of Kindle / tablet covers

Okay I stalled long enough on the kubernetes learning. Time to get a deciclue.

@futurebird I’m curious which music will be designated as representing our times. Which genres and especially which titles.

How will it sneak into culture again? There’ve been times I played a Charlie Parker song and it clicked that I was hearing Motörhead. In a hundred years who will be surprised that riff of a jingle they learned as a tot turned out to be from a Doja Cat hit that they’d never heard of?

This tip from @allenstenhaus@toot.site is exactly how I do my alt text, picking out key elements of the scene and describing those sufficient for usefulness or further questions. I tend to go for a more neutral tone in alt-text than in gaming descriptives though. No hidden jokes or backreferences.

accidentally learning about docker and windows hyper-v

@nomad haven’t the foggiest. Just lumbering through anything between me and getting “hello-minikube” to work.

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 15:27

@nomad @thegibson I decided I am adding an unnecessary complication to my hello world experience, and have booted into Linux.

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 15:52

@unormal Honestly yeah when somebody asked me once I said it was pleasant enough but the math was too hard.

Especially if you throw in intermittent connections

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 15:54

@ceejbot new B2B service idea: automatically generated lo-fi

@csepp @neauoire @alcinnz @hi_mayank I’m a huge fan of TUIs (lower cognitive cost than desktop GUI for my flavor of ADHD) and also a huge fan of accessibility. So now you got me looking through tickets of my favorite tools to see how many of them give any thought to screen readers.

Mostly discouraging results, but Nushell at least has made specific improvements for screen readers.

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 16:41

I might have to make one of those “stop doing math” things, but for ncurses. Y’all Linux nerds need to learn about post-70’s GUI developments.

Much as I love my Text User Interfaces and rich terminal output, @csepp makes a good point. We need to a) not break screen readers or other accessibility tools; and b) be making TUIs that do more than complement our hipster brand. A bad TUI app is no better than a bad React app.

yay I got hello-minikube working and all I had to do was winget install minikube, add a virtual switch, fail to get Docker and minikube talking to each other, reboot into Linux, install and configure Docker Engine, reboot, install minikube, and follow the rest of the tutorial! Easy peasy!

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 17:49

@lordbowlich @csepp Mirrors were placed such that I could post and feel uncomfortably seen by my own post.

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 19:02

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

Keyboard works better if it’s connected.

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 19:29

@kusuriya true true very much an “it depends” situation

hackers.town: 2024-01-11 Thu 19:36

Wasn’t ready to admit defeat on the Windows partition, so I rebooted & tried again.

Then follow the tutorial and done! Easy peasy!

Hopefully I can learn a little more than hello-minikube tomorrow.

@cinebox I didn’t know such a thing was possible in Minecraft!

Not that I’ve dug deep or anything.

@cinebox Ah that makes sense! Create does add a lot.

Exploring the viability of using #TangentNotes as the spot to write and manage site content. It’s viable — it’s also a given that I’ll massage note files with a script before feeding them to Hugo or other SSG.

Incidentally the “Map View” for tonight’s editing session is kind of comical.
