@WuMargaret Saw Time Bandits when I was nine. Weird kid me loved it, but goodness did it leave me with a lot to chew on.

Always been curious how kids way outside the Gen-X bracket would perceive it.

@WuMargaret and Close Encounters is yet another 1970s movie where if there’s a kid, they’re doing something the adults have no idea how to relate to. Channeling Satan, murdering the neighbors, or in this case just hanging out with aliens,

Boomers were not ready for parenthood, I tell you what.

@WuMargaret yeah on technicalities it’s way blurrier than just baby boom kids. Most of those big hits were funded by established older money.

But it’s totally part of the Baby Boomer zeitgeist so I go with it.

@WuMargaret Oh I know you were. I was just saying silent gen / greatest gen and whatever were also not ready for us 😆

Me: I don’t need to get any more PDF bundles. I have too many titles as it is. I’ll never get through them all. There’s nothing you can say to change my mind.

Humble Bundle: Humble Book Bundle Amigurumi and Crochet from Open Road Media (pay what you want and help charity)

@IamMrsGeek I think there’s a whole YouTube genre from this premise.

Course, there’s also a subgenre along the lines of “watch how they weren’t actually making $500,000 a year at home and are now in prison for fraud. And their mom beat them up for late rent.”

seeing job titles like “Principle Lead Staff Senior Software Engineer” and missing the places that just let you make something up

hackers.town: 2024-02-10 Sat 18:05

@rafial varies by department.

@grmpyprogrammer One of the better places I worked, my title was “programmer” because that’s what I did.

I’ve had to learn about this ridiculous stratification and partitioning of roles on the job hunt. “Oh you’re a programmer but are you a senior process automation engineer?” dude if there’s a good paycheck in it you can call me just about anything you like.

Look if the neighbor kids end up on the back of a milk carton I just want to say right up front that we had nothing to do with it.

Way too lazy for that kind of effort.
