When even the VC firms are tired of AI autocomplete and chat buddies.

Basically they’re as gung-ho on generative AI as ever, but would like to see some actual product ideas please. Very little about locally hosted and DIY. I am shocked. Shocked! Okay, not that shocked.

Includes handy infographics for products and tools to learn and / or ignore as per your own AI inclinations.

At the doctor’s office with @IamMrsGeek.

She: I can’t drink coffee anymore because it makes my stomach hurt

RN: There are alternatives to coffee

Me: murder

@maddiefuzz @c0debabe @lordbowlich @IamMrsGeek I’m just glad I don’t need to jump straight to murder.

i guess

another cute moment is a staff member apologizing for issues with technology (never do that) and then blaming it on her gray hairs (never do that) with @IamMrsGeek and I giving each other the psychic side-eye.

Like

no

Don’t work great with tech? No prob. But don’t blame it on age, especially around a couple 50-mumble year-old tech enthusiasts.

Queer folk latched onto Mastodon with a swiftness, which has been a delightful source of constant irritation to both the GNU/Socialites and the Klout Chasers ever since.

Delightful to me, I mean.

@masukomi It’s not a universal label, but generally it’s in my head as the folks that focus on protocol to the exclusion of culture.

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 13:04

@masukomi most of the folks I know who were strongly associated with the creation of GNU/Social and early federated social networking are not like this. Thinking more the sort of fanboys who think because the API says they can, there’s no reason they shouldn’t.

LinkedIn email “jobs similar to $whatever_I_looked_at at Oracle” and dang that’s a bunch of really crappy jobs.

@shmouflon @Binder most of the jokes I remember were heart-crushingly cruel after even a little pondering, i.e. “When will we ever use (math concept)?” “Well YOU won’t, but a successful person will apply it in (situation).”

But I do still like when one teacher encouraged us to include butt flexes in our daily exercise regimen because “if you don’t use it you’ll lose it and you do NOT want to lose it back there.”

Bouncy Dog wants to nap close. But he wants it dark. But he needs cool air.

Problem solved.

@c0debabe He’s pretty comfortable, but every once in a while lets out a sigh like he’s got the weight of the entire world on his tiny little shoulders.

Learning more Go and it’s very boring but that’s okay today. The boring language is soothing like a nice bowl of mashed potatoes.

@nosherwan oh lord that’s a loaded question for the ADHD brain. I’ve been paid to write Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 15:38

@lordbowlich @nosherwan sort of in the background, sure, but honestly since every shell script turns into a full program in my hands, I usually just start from writing the program in a more organized language.

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 15:40

@mcgrew The single executable thing appeals to me for a few ideas.

Alas, I do not enjoy Rust enough, so for this brain cycle was mainly looking at Go and Crystal.

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 15:41

@jacobydave @IamMrsGeek sure but I’ve worked in medical tech so I know medical tech sucks, and I’m neurospicy so I will say so out loud in a crowded medical clinic.

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 15:43

@lordbowlich @nosherwan Having talked to a few React folks I don’t think that’s a safe assumption. But yeah I rarely highlight the fact that I know HTML and CSS in job applications.

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 16:13

@nosherwan @lordbowlich oh that is a distinct relief. I admit to being confused by the React devs unfamiliar with foundational Web stuff.

hackers.town: 2024-02-14 Wed 16:14

@nosherwan @lordbowlich in this case I think I can assume their React work was also not great.

@Natasha_Jay @tamitha between dmoz and hotbot I could find everything, for a while.
