“fifteen minute introduction to TOPIC”

Half an hour to watch, taking notes along the way. Another half hour to process those notes.

I might wait until later for the “TOPIC in one hour” video.

odesli.co is starting to feel a little crusty these days. Anybody know about another music link aggregator resource?

@genehack @minego the local fauna (edit: also flora sorry first coffee) in Arizona is absolutely gorgeous, but I am still confused and honestly a tiny bit saddened by what they call “trees” around here.

Had similar issues in southern Idaho.

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 09:37

@thegibson @genehack @minego this is open to interpretation.

Definitely not the trees I am familiar with, or the trees I grew up with.

A lovely branching desert shrub that could be generously referred to as a tree

Wood railing oblong a dirt path surrounded by towering evergreen trees

People staring at a forest of staggeringly large redwood trees

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 09:39

@thegibson @genehack @minego mind you it’s nice being able to actually see sunrise and sunset without a bunch of wood trying to get your attention

@Blort @rysiek oh now I’m sad all over again.

I was one of the 20 people that liked the WP8 interface and loved the early Nokia line of Windows Phones.

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 10:31

@rysiek okay this is the one I was stalking through your feed for. Gonna need to talk to some friends about switching off Telegram.

@bmac @thegibson @genehack @minego I’ve got mountains in view, so the agoraphobia doesn’t kick in. They aren’t the same kind as the Olympics and Cascades, but they’re neat.

The Arizona Sky Islands is just the coolest dang name for a collection of mountains.

@jamie @paigerduty Yah. I’ve been waiting since roughly 2004 for other languages to catch up with some of the affordances in REBOL.

@chuck Oreo has a peanut butter + chocolate cookie that is worth evaluating.

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 14:00

@gizmomathboy yep, though I only ever got a milkshake if I craved something sweet with my big bag of hot Dick’s.

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 14:26

@CoralineAda I definitely like the term “code hospitality”

No shirt. Cooling blanket wrapped around and tied-up like I’m a five year old cosplaying Superman.

If someone wants a meeting at this point, it’s gonna have to be cameras-off.

@vees Oh how I miss the signal quality from when I lived in Seattle proper.

It’s better here on the outskirts of Tucson than it was in suburban south King County, but it’s still not city-downtown signal strength.

The youngest helped by making frozen pizza, though they neglected to separate it from its cardboard tray before its twenty minutes in a 375F oven.

In completely unrelated news, I accidentally came across “Cohabitation Axiom No. 6” from Jerry van Amerongen’s comic The Neighborhood.

After looking across multiple search engines and archive.org

Cartoon of a man and woman couple, with the woman looking on disapprovingly as the man repeatedly bangs canned food on the counter with a can opener in plain sight; caption reads “Cohabitation Axiom No. 6: The less it appears you know how to do, the less you’ll have do do”

@A_bee Same. It was very hard not to share more. Internet Archive is an awesome resource, but I still think I want to find the physical books again.

@IamMrsGeek I’m pretty sure there’s some karmic rebalancing going on here for my noisy D&D etc sessions

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 20:33

the kind of stuff that would have me laughing out loud for five minutes straight

comic panel of men in business suits looking with concern at a sign reading “RIVETS ON THE GROUND” and an arrow pointint down to a tight cluster of rivets on the ground; caption reads “A sense of uneasiness moved through the crowd.”

hackers.town: 2024-08-27 Tue 20:35

@IamMrsGeek like, what do you do that’s loud enough that the fates decide you need to pay?

Well, there’s always [REDACTED]

@cordelya I haven’t even stayed with a game long enough to spend more than a total of a couple minutes in the nether, and I have this problem.

Died 800m from home.

“well guess it’s time for a new game”

might as well be playing hardcore because my brain is
