@flyingsaceur @lmorchard I got the album the day it came out, and thought it was … okay. Better than I’d heard in a while, but not like his old epic concept albums.
Then he died. And I listened to it again. Realized what he’d done and what he’d hidden in plain sight.
Spent like six months going “you son of a bitch” every time I listened to Blackstar, which was a lot.

@flyingsaceur @lmorchard that first listen it felt kind of like a grab bag. Good stuff, but not coherent. Later listens I realized oh heck this is a concept album and the concept being explored is “Bowie.”
(same as all his other albums, I realized belatedly)

the only change is more kids seeing the option to disown their parents before their parents disown them.
damn and all the assumptions from that writer are from those accustomed to authority, empathizing with the angle of “oh my kid’s just having a tantrum; they’ll get over it and see I’m right.” Darn few of my friends kicked on the street thought their parents would get over it eventually
