Random navel-gazing as my brain warms up to work tasks.
Apparently I partition ideals / ethics.
The ones I value are aspirational. They require effort. They describe who I want to be.
Then I have reflexive behaviors that folks consider virtuous or idealistic. I don’t give those any weight, because of course that’s what I do. It’s who I already am. If I thought about them too much the whole thing would come crashing down. No thank you.
Sort of an internal Vimes / Carrot dichotomy, for the well-read.
Anyways, my brain unlocked how it’s gonna do this work thing. Bye.

@billseitz @lmorchard messing about with a notepad clone in Java Swing in 1999 on a slightly busted 486DX, then implementing & actually being able to use same with Perl/Tk, is what got me committed to Perl for the next 15+ years.
Honestly that was it between me and Java until last year when I got into Minecraft.

@samueldr @drwho Wayland is fine I guess as long as I don’t do anything interesting.
Mostly for me it’s that Wayland feels like Systemd for the desktop, and I just don’t want to try anything interesting with that.
When X11 + up-to-date tools no longer work with my devices, there’s a non-zero chance I just wipe my Linux partition.
