Made the dreaded requisite “open to work” post on LinkedIn and within seconds got multiple private messages from recruiters all asking the slightest variations on “what motivates your search?”

Wondering whether I’d find too many fingers or maybe not enough ears if I looked close at their profile pics.

Play is creative. Ideally playgrounds are too. I would’ve loved a few of these as a kid – or slightly less brittle adult.

@grmpyprogrammer Yeah. Just a particularly unproductive combo of ADHD me and goal-oriented manager.

I’ve had worse, but those gigs I’d actually describe higher management as bad people. This was just a bad mix.

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 11:33

@grmpyprogrammer Thanks, I appreciate that. Definitely some lessons learned about self-onboarding for future work.

@movation Oh god I wish I could tune it like that! I’m always at 100% but the daily (sometimes hourly) question is “100% of what?”

Started an experiment a few days ago in using LinkedIn as an actual social network rather than a corporate culture obligation.

Off-label usage, I admit.

Course now I’m also job-hunting, but I think I’ll keep up the experiment. As I described to @IamMrsGeek, for the thoughts that might be a little too “pants-wearing” for the Fediverse crowd.

Still me, so probably will be cautioned about oversharing at least once in the next month.

We’ll see how it goes.

As of the new release, you can configure #Zellij to start in “non-colliding” mode, where you hit C-g and then whatever combo for panes, tabs, etc. Possible before, but much fiddlier.

Now I can try using Zellij instead of tmux.

@neauoire that scooter knows what it did.

@chuck @IamMrsGeek I mean I know I won’t max out the ol’ engagement meter. I’m allergic to meme posts and hot takes. But it could be a nice outlet.

@tedder still figuring out how conversational I want to be – which is pretty much in question for me all day every day – but anyways https://www.linkedin.com/in/brianwisti/

Reading an article on how to manage folks with #ADHD, taking notes along the way because it’s in my nature. Stray thoughts, ideas about how I might manage me.

These are ideas, not certainties. And what might help me might not help you. But think about how you’d get better work out of you if you were your manager so you know what to ask for from your manager who isn’t you ow my brain

@m “MY ASS WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A FEW COMMENTS ON YOUR SURVEY PLEASE AND THANK YOU”

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 16:50

@gannet Of course! I lived in Western Washington, specifically around the Puget Sound, for a long time. Happy to answer questions or point to resources for answers if I know them.

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 16:52

@gannet (and the timestamp on your post is from 3pm my time and I’m just now seeing it at 4:51pm so we may have some timeline hinkiness. But whenever I see, I’ll answer)

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 17:40

Told @IamMrsGeek that former coworker reached out about a job possibility. (which, very exciting, all relevant appendages crossed)

She: was it Chris?

Me: No, you don’t know her. She has a life.

sorry @perigrin

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 17:43

@rabcyr so tired of all my data being online

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 18:46

@gannet Everett has a bad rep but that’s mostly because it’s a working city (the Naval station provides a lot of the work around there).

For Snohomish County in general, mostly rural and suburban. Many live there and commute to Seattle.

Pretty much all the rural areas you’re gonna have a reactionary bigot problem. Quieter than you might be used to, but with a tendency to organize. After Neo-Nazis dispersed from Idaho in the 80s, many of them scattered across Washington. Then we chased them out of our towns, so they settled in the little quaint scary places.

Rural Snohomish being full of racist dirtbags and Everett being multi-ethnic working class may account for much of the town’s relatively bad rap locally. Check crime data maps for the neighborhoods you’re looking at. I don’t have specifics, but WA usually has reliable data.

hackers.town: 2024-11-19 Tue 18:48

@gannet because it was a jaunt, I usually only went to Everett for the Walmart that stocked clothes to fit my Daniel Radcliffe scale proportions.

It’s never too late to catch up on your Steam library.

@Johannab it has been a rough year for a lot of us, that’s for sure.

Part of why I’m trying to also post mundanities there, to break up the monotony of despair and delusion.
