@gannet Wish I had more direct experience for you. I lived West Sound, South Sound, and East Sound, but never did live in North Sound though I considered it frequently.

You’d be close enough to consider day trips to Anacortes, the lovely San Juan Islands, and Canada!

@gannet In very general “life in the PNW” advice, if you’re moving in winter be ready for SAD. It’ farther north than anywhere else in the lower 48 states, so winter days are short and grey.

Suggest you invest in vitamin D, sunriser lamps, and maybe even light therapy if you’ve the budget.

OTOH get ready for some of the nicest longest summer days ever. You basically get two seasons: Dark Damp and “OMG SUN”

@gannet and if you check any PNW folks in your feed, you’ll see that right now (October & November) is atmospheric river season. Jet stream shifts directly overhead, bringing wind and heavy rains that lead the way for Dark Damp, and every few years a bomb cyclone.

Not up on the lingo but I think that’s a really hip and cool storm. Anyways, property-damaging levels of wind and rain.

@gannet oh and let me be the first of several hundred people to warn you about black ice. Little if any snow, but you get freeze thaw freeze thaw and a parfait of water and ice on the road.

Black ice is why the videos of everybody looking like terrible drivers in the winter.

@m the only note I’ll add is that fascists are human too. Letting them be less than absolves them of responsibility. They’re human. They made this decision. They should bear the full consequences of that decision.

Note how “fascists are human too” means I get to be even angrier.

Talking to my mom about computering and got the sudden urge to unearth my Pi and fiddle with it.

Though I’m also curious: what are folks using these days instead of a #RaspberryPi for the tiny PC variety of DIY computing?
